Our Holiday Adventure!

Thursday 5th April 2001 - Disney's California Adventure theme park

Disney's California Adventure is a brand new theme park right next door to Disneyland itself. In fact, it's all part of the same resort and our prepaid tickets covered admission to this as well as Disneyland. This park only opened in February! The place did feel brand new and (given that this is Disney) boasted the very best & latest theme-park technology. The roller coaster (called California Screamin') looks like a real thriller - and winds its way right through the "boardwalk" area of a section of the park called Paradise Pier - which is meant to be a recreation of Californian seaside resorts. The big wheel has some unusual twists to it too.

Watching some really spectacular, musical acrobatics in the mini-arena in Paradise Pier - notice the roller coaster and big wheel across the lake in the background.

Anyway - we didn't get to to go on these spectacular rides - mainly because we couldn't take the kids on them (they aren't tall enough). Hey ho - if they were teenagers we would probably ending up queuing for hours for these rides.

There is another section of the California Adventure park called Hollywood - themed around tinseltown intself. This area is interestingly very similar to the Disney-MGM studio park at Florida's Walt Disney World.

Hollywood at Disney's California Adventure.

Jaz outisde a shop called the "Souvenier Itch" in Hollywood.

We finally met Mickey just outside Hollywood. Just as it is for all Disney fans around the world - this was the highlight of our entire vacation. Mickey reall made our day!

There is another area in between Disneyland and California Adventure; namely Downtown Disney. This is a part of the overall resort that is open to anybody - even those who don't have tickets. It's meant to be like a Disney town centre - complete with shops, restaurants, entertainment etc. Definitely not as good as the Downtown Disney in Florida.

Downtown Disney - the "open" part of the Disneyland resort.
